Since each of the ports has a different interface, different controllers
can be connected to each of them.  I believe it is also possible to
get converters of some sort.  In any case, if you use the standard
Linux joystick drivers you will be able to support the vast majority of
controllers through whichever ports they can be connected to.  I believe
the Linux joystick drivers are now included as standard with kernel
2.0.36 and recent 2.1 development kernels.
