:zz: The Plan for ZigZag (5)-- THE BIG STEPS

Dear Andrew and Bek and EVerybody:

So much (last memo, #4) for the relatively small
 and incremental changes features.

Here are the radical ones.

I look forward to discussing these with you all.

(Phew.) Ted

=====================================
MAJOR CHANGES, IN PROBABLE ORDER

Netscape/Web Push interface? This will of course look EXTREMELY different
from what we have now. Possibly using--
- Javascript?
- Frames?
- Tables?
- Single page generation with fixed-width characters

IF THAT DOES NOT WORK, SOME PC INTERFACE,
especially / perhaps "Windows console" to look substantially like the
present Curses interface.

MOUNTABLE FILESYSTEM, IF WITHIN REACH THIS SUMMER --
- XEFR(tm)-- Xanadu Enhanced File Repository-- "Zephyr, a breath of fresh
air." A mountable file system using ZigZag and Primedia.
- This may run either on a second machine (probably easier to develop) or
on the X86 itself.
- OBJECTIVE: to be able to demonstrate this to [name omitted] in
Switzerland in September, for possible backing.

CELL TRANSPORTABILITY
- MIME type for a cell?
- EACH CELL KNOWS ITS PROCESSOR OF ORIGIN.

ZZSHELL
- Store Unix commands in ZZ cells
- Can operate on a list of operands (needs Chug or Shear)
- Get results in cells
- Get error mesages incells.

AUDIO RECORD AND PLAY.

VIDEO RECORD AND PLAY.

DICTRON(tm). (This will be a simple application using ZZ cells and audio
primedia.)

==========================================
CLASS PROJECTS
==========================================

ZZMAIL will be a class project for the fall, I hope employing the mountable
file system ZEFR.

==========================================
SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE
==========================================

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF VISUALIZABLE PARALLELISM--
- Multiprocessor ZZ
- Posix Threads ZZ
