I just compiled the code and tried to run it. in under cygwin, it crashes with
the following error:

>lseek in writeallocinfo: Invalid argument
>Error: lseek failed
>Aborted (core dumped)

I guess this has to do with your lseek addition. I guess it would be best to
stay away from modifications which limit the number of platforms the software
runs on.
